Full Description
40 HOURS POST Approved!
NOTICE: POST’s ARM updates took effect on Friday, May 26, 2023.  For you, that means that firearms instructors no longer need to be POST-Certified Instructors (they don’t need instructor development or 2 years’ experience).  They will only need to have a firearms instructor course that meets the requirements of ARM 23.13.215.
This intense course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct firearms training for law enforcement agencies and personnel. Handgun, and patrol rifle proficiency are a prerequisite. Upon completion of this course and an instructor development course, participants will be able to conduct P.O.S.T. certified firearms training for law enforcement personnel (instructor development or other approved instructor course is required to provide P.O.S.T. certified training).
Topics covered include: firearms safety, role of the instructor, civil and criminal liability exposure, instructional techniques for firearms instructors, operation of the firing line, range preparation, handgun, disabled officer techniques and low light shooting techniques.
Before graduating the course, you will be required to successfully complete one or more qualification course(s). Failure to qualify, will result in the student not receiving certification as a firearms instructor. Because of this, department administrators are encouraged to send only qualified firearms operators who have shown proficiency in the use of firearms prior to attending this course.
Agencies will need to send their prospective students to MLEA with a laptop or tablet capable of accessing the internet and their ACADIS Portal. If you do not have access to your ACADIS Portal, please contact your supervisor or POST at MTPOST@mt.gov.
You will be required to complete an online course pre-req training prior to attending the in-person portion of your training. The course link will be sent to you when you register.
